Biography

Son of Eli and Mahalia (Shipley) Selby, who were married in the First Methodist Episcopal Church in Baltimore, MD, on Oct. 27, 1810. Larkin Selby married Caroline Elizabeth Denune in Franklin County, OH, on Jan. 30, 1853.

Larkin's mother was a descendant of Adam Shipley, who was born in Yorkshire, England, and immigrated to Annapolis, Maryland, in 1668.

Cause of death was listed as "paralysis of brain," which may indicate stroke.

Notation in Union Cemetery Lot Book: "Union Cemetery Association Hess Book, page 38, lists "Larken Selby" put in the vault on 05 Dec 1884. There is no location listed in the Hess Book entry. [Based on the date, this burial would be in Section Old which was the only section at Union Cemetery in 1884]"

Based on other notes in the Union Cemetery Lot Book, it appears Larkin, Lemuel, Lemuel's daughter Callie, and Caroline (Denune) Selby are all buried in Section Old, Lot 83, which was purchased in installments between 1884 and 1887. Lemuel Selby made the first payment in 1884 and is listed as the lot owner; Caroline made the last payment upon Lemuel's death and subsequently became the lot owner (which may have caused some confusion in the records).

Lot book states "No gravestone found in 2013."
